Somehow, my husband managed to get all of the wires sorted (including re-routing the light switch for the kitchen light from the hallway behind the fridge into the kitchen next to the sink) and put all of the sheetrock up. So happy! He is a rockstar.

(Also - please note the patched over seam on the ceiling above the fridge - apparently there was a wall there before? We are putting a wall just behind that spot tomorrow. Yay for progress & respecting the original lines of the house - there was also a wall between the kitchen & dining areas where we added the new archway… Seams on the ceiling revealed that too!)

We tore out the soffit & discovered a mess of wires. Thank god for brothers who are jacks of all trades. My bro will be helping J figure this all out tomorrow, and then sheetrock commences. But it is slowly but surely coming together!

The to-do list:
-sheetrock
-tongue & groove wood ceiling painted white
-track lighting or recessed to replace the ceiling fan
-pendant light over the sink
-black iridescent oval glass tile backsplash
-white acrylic countertops
-new sink & faucet
-slate colored ceramic tile floors
-wall cabinet to go in empty space
-dishwasher to go in empty space below (after removing drawer cabinet)
-crown moulding for the cabinets
-crown moulding for ceiling
-base moulding around cabinets & floor
-lumber to build fridge cabinet/enclosure
-water hookup for the fridge
-wall behind the fridge to be built (after re-running wires)
-build wood “floating” wall shelves to go in empty corner
-Ikea Varde drawer cabinet to use as island
-capita brackets & shelf from Ikea to build “bar” shelf on island
-bar stools x 2

And… eventually… done.

Zee kitchen so far. We intended to build a wall today… ran into some electrical issues though with trying to move/modify a triple light switch that took a few hours. Instead we moved the baseboard heater and slid the fridge into its new spot. So far so good!

Slowwwwwww progress.

Kitchen/dining area re-mod ideas.  Bigger pic can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/all_about_evelyn/8010162308/sizes/l/in/photostream/
Details by numbers:

1. chalkboard fridge.
2. color that the chairs will be repainted (very similar) & probably the color of the upper shelves that will be in place of cabinets.
3. painted teal cabinets.
4. another teal paint swatch.
5. moodboard type swatches - cabinets, chairs & shelves, drapes (color on white ground?) as seen on A Beautiful Mess.
6. planning on painting some accent on our table neon pink, like these chair legs.
7. basic wall layout - base cabinets (except teal), butcher block counters, tile (mirror tile instead) and wood above with shelves mounted.
8. mirror tile backsplash between the upper plywood wall & the butcher block counters, just like this.
9. the locker cabinet I’ll be painting a brighter teal to use as a pantry (integrated with the other cabinets).
10. head of the table chairs x 2, also to be painted the same yellow.
11. butcher block counter tops.

new drapes in the kitchen.  painting as-is.  debating on adding text to it?  not sure… I worry it may make it too busy.  need to snag some bigger curtain rings so the drapes hang lower, and eventually a different (non-white) rug, probably with a pattern and probably with some teal & green.  the room needs some teal & green.  I guess the theme I’m going for is roy g biv.

The mural by day, and then some frames in the kitchen.  I like the arrangement… thinking about spraypainting a couple of them yellow to break it up a bit, though.  Can’t wait to fill them.

The text canvas I just finished, with the lyrics for “You Don’t Own the Road” by The Kills.  The white paint marker is a wee bit tacky yet - hopefully that will dry over the next few days.  I think it’s because it’s on the black vinyl vs an absorbent fabric.  Extremely happy with it, though.  Measures 30”w x 60”h.

(also, pic # 2 - typical day in our house.)

1&2: details

3: I love how it looks in dim light.  Her eyes glow.

4: Wide view of the kitchen/dining area.  Where we’re imagining a new table, and there’s usually a white fluffy flokati rug beneath it.  And where that green candelabra will live.

(an aside: the bee idea came from a cover shot I saw of Lana del Rey, but after deducing & reading that she’s had collagen injections in her top lip {whaaaaat??} I decided to loosely base it upon the HBIC of rock whose bee stung pout is unenhanced…. Ms. Shirley Ann Manson.)
